ask any of my friends, I sometimes obsess about our genre. i listen to some underground art-school indie rock, get inspired and then pick up the guitar and wind up writing something more Mellencamp than Modest Mouse...
I am salivating now at the opportunity to release our next record on NoiseTrade.com, I wish it was already finished instead of languishing in the planning stages. The good news is, it looks as though we may be getting the Bulgarian wonder mixer, Ilian Pavlov on board for another project.
This past weekend, we did not play at the Best of Fresno shindig, but thanks to Mike for suggesting us as a worthy possibility for the event on the beehive.
No, actually, we stayed one or two degrees cooler inside the eminently cool, Yoshi NOW! It was a fine, fun time and we loved it, so we're going to be back there in October. Thanks to Joy, we not only got to play for a long, uninterupted time (unlike one summertime show at Yamaha 99, where the MC called us "SuperDub" and plugged motorcycles and bikini babes between songs) but we also got store credit and spent well over an hour wandering deliriously through the isles (intentional) following our show. I got Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seeger and Alarm records in addition to two shirts and playing cards. I still have credit left.
in case you might be wondering...today's show will in fact be indoors. plus the weather is better today anyhow.
we,
on the other hand, will be riding there in "chester the van" which has
something resembling A/C but which could be considered more of a
distant cousin rather than a close relative of climate control.
see you soon hugs and kisses

thanks to Ally for this post that we just became aware of:
"So
I'm starting with these great young bands, who can consider themselves
the inspiration for my laziness overhaul. On one side lie The Overdubs.
They originally contacted me with the common ground of liking Bon Iver,
which caught my interest. While there is more traditional American
indie-boy vocals in their music, don't let that turn you off. The
quietness that is so capturing in Bon Iver's For Emma echoes a lot
through The Overdubs' song Orange County, something distracting in the
background that somehow pulls you into the vocals. I'm also pretty sure
it's the only song about OC with a banjo in it.

Thanks
to Club Fred for having us out, a fine, fun time was had by us and
unintentionally, this was justin landis' last show with the overdubs
for a while. In the next few weeks, we're going to focus on recording
and will likely play only one show in July, at Yoshi NOW! For all you
day people types that show will take place at 3:00 pm.

guitar problems abounded, staying in tune was a struggle and we finished the show well after 1:00 in the morning...way too late for a school night but in spite of all that, I thought we sounded ok.
tonight at club fred, we dare to play out on a weeknight once again!
We initially started working on an ep since justin was coming and we wanted to fully develop our "sound" before working on a full-length album...and that was about eight months ago...Now, Justin is going to be moving on in July, making June 10th at the Starline a must-see, and our ep is nowhere near completion. Plus, we have around 14.5 good candidates for a full length. So, clearly, the wise choice is to start working on a full album because it's easier than an ep? But in all seriousness, we are going to make an album and we have to do it before justin leaves california. of course, there are still at least six other people in the band, so we won't be hurting for members even though it's sad that he's going back to idaho.
I'm taking down perfect state and email from satan and angels and demons. they will all be on the new record so you (and I) should forget what they sound like in lieu of the new, improved versions.
sometime, this weekend, we'll post some different material.
Mike Oz of the Fresno Bee was so kind as to interview us (me) for last Friday's edition of the 7 Section. You can check it out online here...
the overdubs, artists you should know
in other news, I'm going on vacation tomorrow but I hope to use some of my time off to continue the cover songs podcast series. friday's show at the Joe was top notch. stay tuned for more shows. if you want us to play at something, drop us a line.
